Green Technology: But do we call it a half bath?

Did I really see that? The latest plumbing product to start popping up in Winnipeg home listing photos is a toilet-sink combo that is getting a lot of second looks. You could call it two-in-one plumbing. Although it is certainly suited to tight spaces, the product is not necessarily intended to fully replace bathroom sinks.

The intent of these products is to reduce water consumption by re-using “grey water”.

In the pictured Caroma brand toilet, fresh water is directed through the faucet and then drains into the tank to be used for the next flush.

There are also retrofit products on the market that adapt to existing toilets (for example Sink Positive). This recently made a brief appearance on Ask This Old House’s January 26, 2012 episode.
