At last shovels are in the ground in Ridgewood South, the six-kilometre-long triangle of land on the south side of Charleswood that is Winnipeg’s newest large-scale residential development.
Ridgewood South is roughly 800 acres of partly forested land bounded by Wilkes Avenue to the south, the Perimeter Highway to the west and the Harte Trail to the north. The largest single landowner is Winnipeg property developer Qualico. They are currently installing services and excavating retention ponds in their largest contiguous holding, a 177 acre site which comprises the bulk of the area between Charleswood Road and the Perimeter Highway.
Past estimates have between 5,500 and 8,700 people expected to move into Ridgewood South over at 15 year period. Indications are that single-family will dominate to the west and future multi-family will be located in eastern portions of Ridgewood.
On their website Qualico is projecting building lots to be available in 2015.

Qualico’s initial development in Charleswood-“Ridgewood West”-extends south of Westdale to Wilkes Avenue as seen below:
Nevertheless, the old Charleswood isn’t quite gone yet. Coyote warnings are currently posted nearby on the Harte Trail.
