60th Anniversary Reception

since 1956A Reception to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the AAOM was held on Wednesday May 4th, 2016 from 4:30 to 7:00 at the Best Western Plus Winnipeg Airport Hotel, with the AAOM Conference (May 4 & 5).

Presentation of Life Memberships

Seventy plus former Members, current Members and/or Conference Delegates and several invited guests were in attendance. During the Reception AAOM President Michael Cortvriendt presented Life Membership Certificates to two former members of the Association who had retired from active service in the assessment field.

Dar Braun was the second recipient. He had served eight years as Secretary-Treasurer on the Executive Council, and was a member of the AAOM for 24 years before he retired from City Assessment in 2010.

Presentation of 50 Year Membership

Michael then presented a 50 year Membership Certificate to Bernie McMullan who joined the Association way back in 1966.

Bernie was accredited in 1974. He started McMullan Associates in 1980, and retired from being employed by others in 2011.

Bernie’s wife Pat was invited to the Reception (unbeknownst to Bernie) and son Paul, who was a Conference delegate was also at the Reception to see his Dad receive his Certificate.

Bernie has done a lot for the Association – served on various Boards and Committees, was President in 1972 and has been a sponsor of the Conference for many years. We hope Bernie continues to renew his membership in the Association for many more years to come!

A Cash Bar was set up in the Banquet Room and the attendees were each given a ticket, compliments of the A.A.O.M., so they could purchase a “refreshment” to toast the Association’s 60th Anniversary. Throughout the evening, the guests were sampled with a variety of wonderful hot and cold hors d’oeuvres.  Don’t think anyone went away hungry!

It was really great for those who were once members of the AAOM, to renew acquaintances with other former members who were at the Reception.

Hope we can do it again for the 70th Anniversary!
